MOGADISHU, Somalia, May 5 (UPI) -- At least seven people died and 10 were injured Sunday when a car bomb targeted a government convoy in Mogadishu, Somalia, officials said.

The suicide attack targeted a group of vehicles including that of Somalia's internal security minister, Shabelle Media Network reported.

Ali Ahmed, the minister, was not in the vehicle at the time of the attack and was uninjured, Shabelle reported. His vehicle and two others were damaged.

The BBC reported seven deaths and 10 injuries in the attack, though the Shabelle Media Network put those numbers at eight dead and dozens injured.

Officials say the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab militant group was responsible for the attack, although no group has come forward to claim responsibility, the BBC reported.

The attack came one day after the government lifted a four-day ban on vehicle traffic in Mogadishu, the BBC said. The ban was meant to prevent attacks by al-Shabaab.
