Teen allegedly confesses to killing cats in Gothenburg

GOTHENBURG, Sweden, May 3 (UPI) -- A Swedish teenager has allegedly admitted to police in Gothenburg that he is responsible for a string of gruesome cat killings, officials said.

The teen was arrested Thursday and has been questioned about the deadly animal abuse that stretches back to November 2011, The Local.se reported.

"The 16-year-old suspect has confessed during interviews with police to all the cases of suspected animal cruelty," police spokeswoman Ulla Brehm told the Goteborgs-Posten newspaper.

The most recent incident happened Wednesday, officials said. A cat was found dead, handing outside its owner's home in the Frolunda neighborhood of Gothenburg.

Six other cats have been found tortured, slit open, and hung from trees in the past seven weeks in Gothenburg's Hogsbo district.

Police in the city said they are pleased to have made some progress in the case.

"It naturally feels good now that all concerned residents, cat owners, and others can breathe easily and feel relieved that the police have found the person who did this," Brehm told the Goteborgs-Posten.
