Queen meets former dancing partner at rehab center

HEADLEY, England, May 3 (UPI) -- Britain's Queen Elizabeth got a demonstration of prosthetic limbs Thursday from a triple-amputee soldier who once danced with her at a Balmoral Castle ball.

The queen and Prince Philip visited Headley Court, a military rehabilitation center in Sussex, the Daily Express reported. One of the patients, Dave Watson, 26, of the Scots Guards spent three months in 2010 on duty at the royal family's Scottish retreat and later was deployed to Afghanistan.

"Before I got injured I used to talk to the queen every day, when I was based at Balmoral for three months. She comes around every day to see what's going on and so does Prince Philip," Watson said. "I even danced arm in arm with her at the Ghillies' Ball," referring to a traditional party for the Balmoral gamekeepers.

Headley Court, a former Royal Air Force base, was converted to a medical rehabilitation center after World War II.

The center now has about 90 patients at a time.

Thursday's visit was the queen's first, although other members of her family, including Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry, have visited in the past.
