GOSFORD, Australia, April 28 (UPI) -- Allyson McConnell, convicted in Canada in the 2010 drowning death of her sons, ages 2 and 10 months, said she wouldn't rule out having more children.
McConnell, 34, originally of Sydney, Australia, spoke out Sunday for the first time since a Canadian court found her guilty of manslaughter in the deaths of her sons, Connor and Jayden, the Sunday Telegraph of Sydney reported.
McConnell and her husband, Curtis McConnell, were in a divorce and custody battle when she drowned her sons in a bathtub in Millet Alta, Alberta. She then tried to commit suicide by jumping off an Edmonton overpass, the CBC reported.
McConnell said: "There have been a lot of things written about me being a bad mother. I wasn't a bad mother, I was actually a very loving mother. But you never hear about that. At the moment I'm just trying to get over what has happened. It's been as upsetting for me as much as everyone else involved. I think about them every single day."
McConnell was incarcerated in Alberta for 10 months of the six-year sentence to which a Canadian court sentenced her. She was released from a psychiatric hospital April 4, was deported to Australia April 10 and now lives with her mother in Gosford, near Sydney, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
McConnell pleaded guilty to manslaughter and the court found she had psychological issues and so there was reasonable doubt she had the specific intent to kill Connor and Jayden, the Sunday Telegraph said.
