TRIPOLI, Libya, April 28 (UPI) -- Armed men surrounded the Libyan Foreign Ministry Sunday, demanding the office be cleansed of loyalists to former ruler Moammar Gadhafi, an official said.

Trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns encircled the building in Tripoli and were lined up on roads leading up to the ministry, an official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said.

The armed men refused to allow ministry staff to enter the building, CNN reported.

Most of the staff had turned back, the official said.
