Putin says Russia to consider amending adoption agreements with France

MOSCOW, April 26 (UPI) -- Russia will consider amending its adoption agreement with France after France's approval of same-sex marriage, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday.

Speaking of the section of French law allowing same-sex couples to adopt children, Putin told a Council of Legislators meeting: "We should react to what is going on around us. We treat our neighbors with respect, but ask [them] to treat with respect our cultural traditions, [our] ethic, legislative and moral norms."

"I believe we have the right to submit amendments," Putin added, to limit adoption of Russian children.
