BELFAST, Northern Ireland, April 26 (UPI) -- Police in Northern Ireland working in a joint British-Swedish investigation into sex trafficking have arrested two women.

Two alleged victims of sex trafficking were also discovered in a series of raids Thursday, the Belfast Telegraph reported. They were transferred to a shelter where they were questioned by officers trained in dealing with sex trafficking.

The two detainees, ages 20 and 27, were arrested under European warrants. Prosecutors in Northern Ireland planned to ask a magistrate to order their transfer to Sweden .

Detective Chief Inspector Douglas Grant, who is heading the investigation for the Police Service of Northern Ireland, said investigators were examining computers, cellphones and other items seized in the raids.

"Working with law enforcement colleagues in various parts of Europe, we believe we have halted the activities of an organized crime gang involved in controlling prostitution and human trafficking in Northern Ireland, Sweden and Romania," he said.
