Fire destroys part of National Library of Wales

ABERYSTWYTH, Wales, April 26 (UPI) -- A fire at the National Library of Wales, in the city of Aberystwyth, destroyed a 100-foot section of the library's roof Friday, fire officials said.

The building, which dates from 1911, contains millions of books, manuscripts, maps and other artifacts, but the area affected by the fire is used as office space and it is not believed any books were damaged, the BBC reported Friday.

"Everybody is out and safe, and all procedures have been followed. We need to know what happened and how," said incoming head librarian Aled Gruffydd Jones.
