JERUSALEM, April 24 (UPI) -- Israeli President Shimon Peres will meet with Pope Francis on Peres' three-day visit to Rome next week, a report says.

Peres and the Pope offered each other invitations to visit after Peres congratulated the pontiff on his election to the papacy in March, The Jerusalem Post reported Wednesday, adding Peres also would meet with the President of Italy, business leaders and representatives of the Italian Jewish community when in Rome.

Peres also plans to travel to Assisi to be welcomed by the mayor, the newspaper said.
