New bird flu cases reported in China

BEIJING, April 23 (UPI) -- Two new cases of avian flu have been reported in China bringing the total number of cases to 104, including 21 deaths, the Chinese government reported.

The National Health and Family Commission said so far there has been no sign of human-to-human transmission of the H7N9 virus, the official Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

The two newest cases were recorded in the eastern coastal province of Zhejiang where 40 cases, including five deaths, were reported earlier.

Shanghai reported 22 cases while three cases were reported in Anhui province, three in Henan province and one case in Beijing.

China officially confirmed human cases of avian flu late last month.

To date 70 patients remained hospitalized with H7N9 in China, the commission said.
