MEXICO CITY, April 22 (UPI) -- Some Mexico City homes lacked electricity Monday but no injuries were reported a day after a 5.9-magnitude earthquake shook central Mexico, authorities said.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake occurred about 6 p.m. Sunday, at a depth of 17.7 miles, near the Pacific coast approximately 200 miles from Mexico City in the state of Michoacan.
There were no reports of injuries or damage, state civil protection officials said.
Tremors could be felt as far away as Mexico City, CNN reported. Some homes in the capital city were without power, officials said.
The epicenter of the earthquake was 13 miles northeast of Las Guacamayas, 16 miles north-northeast of Lazaro Cardenas, 16 miles northeast of La Orilla, 38 miles south-southeast of La Mira Tumbiscatio and 212 miles west-southwest of Mexico City, the USGS reported.
