Owner Mary Brown told The Recorder and Times that the blue and yellow macaw died suddenly Wednesday after suffering from an acute respiratory infection.
"I'm absolutely devastated," Brown said. "He was a colorful angel with wings."
The bird was 29 years old, and macaws can have a lifespan of up to 60 years in the wild, The Recorder and Times said.
The bird became famous on Easter Sunday when its cries were mistakenly broadcast onto the street through Brown's intercom.
Police thought someone in the apartment was in need of help, and broke down Brown's door before realizing the sounds were coming through a parrot.
Brown was interviewed extensively by media after the incident and toured a school with the bird.
"He will be sorely missed and forever treasured in my heart," she said.
