KABUL, Afghanistan, April 20 (UPI) -- At least seven people were injured in a suicide attack on a convoy of Afghan and coalition forces in Helmand province, officials say.

The attack occurred when a vehicle packed with explosives slammed into the convoy in the Sangin district of the southern province, Khaama Press reported Saturday.

District governor Mohammad Daud Noorzai confirmed the report, saying it happened about 11 a.m. local time Friday.

Claiming responsibility for the attack, Taliban spokesman Qari Yosuf Ahmadi said at least 10 Afghan troops and 10 coalition forces were killed.

Officials denied the claim, saying only five police officers and two civilians were hurt.
