Flooding from rain, melting snow hits Sweden

April 20, 2013 at 3:25 PM   |   Comments

UPPSALA, Sweden, April 20 (UPI) -- Forecasters in Sweden said floods that have already closed some roads and railways will worsen this weekend near Uppsala.

Rain and melting snow are contributing to the flooding near the university town, TheLocal.se said.

The website said the Fyris river, which runs through Uppsala, had flooded its banks and water flooded homes nearby.

TT News Agency said floodwaters were expected to crest sometime this weekend. Train lines between Uppsala and Stockholm were expected to remain open but delays were expected due to water on the tracks.
