UPPSALA, Sweden, April 19 (UPI) -- Melting snow caused extensive flooding in the university city of Uppsala and disrupted rail service in Sweden Friday, officials said.

Departures of trains traveling from Stockholm to Uppsala, Borlange and Falun were canceled, a statement from the Swedish Transport Administration said.

Services of commuter trains from Knivsta to Uppsala were delayed, the national rail operator SJ reported.

Water levels in the Fryis River rose Thursday night, causing extensive flooding along its banks between Uppsala and Knivsta, the Swedish news website TT/The local reported.
