Mubarak healthy enough to return to prison

CAIRO, April 17 (UPI) -- Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's health has improved, and he was ordered transferred from a military hospital back to prison, an official said.

The move comes after a medical checkup indicated he was healthy enough, after fracturing a rib, to leave the Maadi Military Hospital in suburban Cairo and be returned to Tora prison hospital, a spokesman for Egypt's Public Prosecution office confirmed Wednesday.

Wednesday the Cairo Appeals Court scheduled Mubarak's retrial for May 11. He was convicted in June 2012 on charges involving the deaths of protesters during the January 2011 uprising that ended his 30-year rule, the Cairo newspaper al-Masry al-Youm reported.

Mubarak is also appealing his life sentence, and faces charges in a corruption case. His sons Gamal and Alaa, also face corruption charges, the news website Ahram Online reported.
