MOSCOW, April 14 (UPI) -- Russian officials upset by U.S. sanctions against 18 Russians accused of rights abuses said they will discuss the issue with the U.S. national security adviser.
The Obama administration last week published the so-called Magnitsky list of 18 Russians alleged to be complicit in human rights abuses. The individuals would not be allowed to enter the United States and the Treasury Department said any U.S.-held assets they hold would be frozen.
Russia responded by publishing a list of its own -- also 18 names long -- of people it is banning from entering Russia, including some Bush-era officials and some associated with running the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, RIA Novosti said Sunday.
Alexei Pushkov, the head of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, promised U.S. National Security Adviser Tom Donilon, traveling to Moscow this week, will "be the first to feel tomorrow the consequences of the blacklists introduced by the United States."
