JERUSALEM, April 14 (UPI) -- Israel's population has reached 8 million, representing a 1.8 percent increase from 2012, the country's Central Bureau of Statistics said Sunday.
The report by the CBS, which is released annually the day before Israel's Independence Day, said the country's population had grown by about 137,000 people during the past year, The Jerusalem Post reported.
About 163,000 babies were born in Israel and about 41,000 people died between last year's Independence Day and Sunday, while about 19,500 Jews immigrated to Israel, the report said.
About 75.3 percent of Israel's population is Jewish, while 20.7 percent is Arab, the CBS said. The remaining 4 percent is made up of non-Arab Christians, people with other religions, and people without religious affiliation.
The report said 14 Israeli cities have populations over 100,000 people. When Israel was established in 1948, only Tel Aviv had a population of more than 100,000.
