Thatcher's daughter thanks world for support

LONDON, April 13 (UPI) -- The daughter of Margaret Thatcher says the mourning period for the former British prime minister was a sad week for many people.

"I know this is going to be a tough an tearful week, even for the daughter of an iron lady," Carol Thatcher said in her first public appearance since her mother died Monday.

Carol Thatcher said she was comforted by the accolades coming in from around the world, including the White House.

"These have given me strength," she said.

Carol Thatcher said her mother had told her before her death she felt "my place in history is assured," Britain's The Daily Telegraph reported.
