LAKE ANNECY, France, April 13 (UPI) -- French detectives said they've found new unidentified DNA on evidence from the scene of the shooting deaths of an Iraqi family visiting from England.
The breakthrough comes seven months after Saad al-Hilli, his wife, Ikbal, and her mother, Suhalia al-Allaf were gunned down at a remote roadside vista in the French Alps near Lake Annecy. The couple's two young daughters were not shot though one was injured after being pistol-whipped.
Police have made no arrests. They said the DNA does not match that of any of the victims or the initial witnesses at the scene and they were testing to determine whether it matches that of investigators who were at the scene, The Daily Telegraph said.
The family was born in Iraq but immigrated to Great Britain. Officials said there have been questions of whether their killing had something to do with ties to their former home but investigators have not uncovered any connection or obvious motive.
Officials questioned Hilli's brother, who claimed he was innocent. The two had repaired their relationship after a falling out over an inheritance, the newspaper said.
