China calls for peace, stability

April 10, 2013 at 12:06 AM

BEIJING, April 9 (UPI) -- China says the situation on the Korean Peninsula remains extremely complex and sensitive and cautioned against aggravating it.

Responding to the latest North Korean warning asking all foreigners and foreign organizations and tourists in South Korea to be ready to evacuate due to the threat of a nuclear war on the peninsula, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said his government opposes any action that would aggravate the tensions, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

Hong said the current situation is extremely complex and sensitive. He said maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula calls for the two Koreas to mend their fences through reconciliation and cooperation.
