A spokesman for the Indian Foreign Ministry said the troops were attacked by rebels in South Sudan's eastern state of Jonglei, the Indo-Asian News Service reported.
Spokesman Syed Akbaruddin announced the deaths in a Twitter message.
He said the soldiers were part of the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan.
Akbaruddin said the Indian embassy was working with UNMISS to arrange for return of the five bodies.
