Man caught smuggling cocaine into Mali

April 8, 2013 at 2:26 PM

DOHA, Qatar, April 8 (UPI) -- A Malian drug mule will spend the next 15 years in a Qatar prison for smuggling 6.1 pounds of cocaine in capsules he swallowed.

The man was caught after acting suspiciously in the airport in Qatar during a stop-over from Brazil to his native Mali. He was brought to a hospital and X-rays of his abdomen revealed the drug capsules in his system, Gulf News reported Monday.

The man told police he'd agreed to carry the drugs into Mali to make $2,000 to help pay his mother's medical bills.
