Fireworks plant blast kills 2, injures 9

CHANGSHA, China, April 8 (UPI) -- An explosion at a fireworks factory in central China killed two people and injured nine others, officials said Monday.

The blast happened Sunday afternoon at the Huangjia Fireworks Plant in Baitutan Township, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

Two people died at the scene and nine others were transported to a local hospital for treatment, a spokesman said. One of those injured is in serious condition.

The manager of the plant was arrested on unspecified charges, Xinhua said.
