Tear gas was fired at anti-government protesters outside the High Court in Cairo and armored vehicles were reported stationed around the Central Bank in the capital.
The Health Ministry told Ahram online 46 injuries were recorded in Cairo and other communities on the fifth anniversary of the Mahalla strikes in 2008.
President Mohamed Morsi condemned the protests, which Ahram said appeared to have subsided by Sunday morning.
The MENA news agency said Mahalla itself was also calm after incidents involving rocks and Molotov cocktails broke out near the city's police station and Shoun Square.
