Anarchopanda's head seized by police

MONTREAL, April 7 (UPI) -- Montreal police seized the head of Anarchopanda, the unofficial mascot for protesters in the city, officials said.

Anarchopanda's head was seized during a protest Friday night in downtown Montreal, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Laws in the city forbid wearing of masks during street demonstrations.

Police spokesman Daniel Lacoursiere said the mask "is considered to be an exhibit and could be used in court."

The man wearing the panda costume -- a professor at Maisonneuve College -- was given two $637 fines; one for wearing the mask and another for participating in an alleged illegal protest, police said.
