7 students arrested for killing freshman

NAMAKKAL, India, April 7 (UPI) -- Police said they have arrested seven students for the killing of an engineering student in Namakkal, India.

The victim, identified as Deepak, was riding his bike when the students allegedly hit him from behind as a part of a hazing activity, Gulf News reported.

The suspects are David Cherian, Jitin John, Sarath, Bijo and Aswanth, who are all age 20, and Danish John and Mithun, who are 21.

The 20-year-old victim was a freshman at the Gnanamani engineering college, and a funeral was held for him Friday.
