PARIS, April 6 (UPI) -- A drunken driving trial in Paris for French actor Gerard Depardieu was pushed back for a third time while he works on a movie in New York, his lawyer said.

Depardieu is starring as the former International Monetary Fund director and prominent French politician Dominique Strauss Kahn, who was charged with sexually assaulting a chambermaid in a New York hotel.

The charges were dropped but not before Strauss Kahn lost his job at the IMF and abandoned plans to run for president of France.

Depardieu's lawyer told the court his client was sorry he couldn't be present, Radio France Internationale said Saturday.

When Depardieu was arrested following a minor accident in November, police said he had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The charge carries a maximum fine of $5,200 and as much as two years in prison.
