Jamie Cumming, 36, was given a life sentence after a jury in the high court in Edinburgh found him guilty of murder, The Scotsman reported. Judge Lynda Clark ordered him to serve at least 17 years before release.
Cumming was convicted of stabbing James Getty, 29, who had gone to the Maltman in Dundee for a 50th birthday party for James Kelbie. Cumming tried to put the blame on Kelbie, who had tried to pull the two men apart during a struggle in the pub's parking lot.
Cumming became notorious in 2011 after the news media reported he was living on unemployment benefits and paying no support for the 15 children he had at the time. His mother, Lorraine, described him as a predator who became a father for the first time while still in his teens and continued to go after teenagers as he got older.
"I am bitterly disappointed with how he lives his life," she said.
After killing Getty, Cumming sent farewell text messages to a number of people, police said.
"I have thrown my life away," he reportedly told police when he was arrested two days later.
