MAGAS, Russia, April 3 (UPI) -- One police officer was killed and five other security officers wounded by exploding landmines in the Russian republic of Ingushetia, officials say.
The blasts were attributed to Islamist insurgents who are reported to regularly attack security forces and civilians in the North Caucasus region, RIA Novosti reported Wednesday.
Three Russian service members were wounded in the first attacks about noon Tuesday in the Sunzhensky District, which borders the republic of Chechnya, regional law enforcement agencies said.
Another landmine exploded when officers arrived at the scene of the first blast, wounding three Interior Ministry officers. One of them, a deputy chief of Ingushetia's riot police, died later in a hospital.
