KABUL, Afghanistan, April 2 (UPI) -- Afghan security forces have cleared the Wardoj district of Afghanistan's Bakhshan province of militants, local authorities said.

Police said operations were conducted over three days in 43 villages within the district and ended Monday, Khaama Press reported.

A local security official said about 80 militants were killed and more than 110 others were injured during the operation.

Separately, the Afghan Defense Ministry said Tuesday at least nine militants were killed during military operations conducted by the Afghan army in a 24-hour period in Ghazni, Helmand, Kandahar, Logar and Paktika provinces.

Khaama Press said anti-government militant groups didn't comment initially on the report.
