Yemen vows to find kidnapped European trio

SANAA, Yemen, April 1 (UPI) -- Yemen's president has vowed he will use force to free a Finnish couple and their Austrian friend abducted by al-Qaida three months ago.

President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi made the pledge during a meeting with Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja, Gulf News reported Monday.

"It is the responsibility of the Yemeni security to use all possible ways including the use of force to secure the release of the kidnapped Finnish couple," Hadi said Sunday after the minister's arrival for a two-day visit.

Al-Qaida has demanded millions of euros in ransom since the couple and their friend Dominik Neubauer were kidnapped Dec. 12 from a street in Sanaa.

In a video clip posted on the Internet Feb. 21, 32-year-old Neubauer appealed to the Austrian government and the European Union to fulfill the kidnappers' demands.

A Swiss woman kidnapped a year ago by the al-Qaida wing in Yemen was released Feb. 27 following mediation by the Qatari government.
