Hezbollah: U.S. drags Lebanon into crisis

BEIRUT, Lebanon, April 1 (UPI) -- Hezbollah charged Monday the United States was trying to drag Lebanon into "crises and problems" to justify meddling in the country's affairs.

Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, the head of Hezbollah's executive council, said "the specter of strife" hanging over Lebanon was part of a U.S. scheme, The (Beirut) Daly Star reported.

In a statement, he said the United States and Israel were working together "against Syria and the entire region" to "instill fighting and pushes with all its might to keep the bloodshed and destruction."

"In Lebanon, we are facing the same problem with the Americans who are interfering in everything and trying to impose agendas and headlines," Safieddine said. "Then they come out with statements calling for consensus among Lebanese and for elections to be conducted by the Lebanese people themselves."

He said the U.S. statements were "meaningless" and confirmed the United States "practices a policy of lies and hypocrisy with the purpose of dragging the country into crises and problems."
