Ride mishap in Serbia injures nine kids

SOKOBANJA, Serbia, March 31 (UPI) -- Nine first-graders on an outing were injured in a playground accident in Serbia Sunday, school officials said.

The children were riding a swing carousel when it collapsed in the town of Sokobanja.

A school official told b92 radio one little girl had to undergo emergency brain surgery for a serious head injury.

The Belgrade Evening News said in a translated report the picnic ground where the mishap occurred regularly hosts school groups and was considered a particularly safe place for children.

The cause of the playground equipment's collapse was not reported.
