Indonesia child-sex scandal probe urged

March 30, 2013 at 2:14 PM   |   Comments

JAKARTA, March 30 (UPI) -- Children's advocates called on Indonesian police to investigate the alleged activities of an apparent prostitution racket run by a Japanese national.

The Bali Child Protection Institute said police need to look into reports the group had received from a high school student who said the 47-year-old man enticed her and other underage girls to have sex with him and other men at a rented home in the Jembrana district.

"We are still investigating this matter and collecting more evidence," Titik Suhariyati told the Jakarta Globe.

Activists told the newspaper that even though the girls were paid for sex, the unidentified Japanese man could be charged with sex trafficking. They said police did not have to wait for a complaint to be filed before beginning an investigation.
