KABUL, Afghanistan, March 27 (UPI) -- Violence across Afghanistan killed at least 13 people, including several security officers, and wounded six others, officials said.

Local authorities in northeastern Badakhstan province said two Afghan police officials and 10 Taliban militants were killed Tuesday when insurgents attacked a security checkpoint in Bashand, Khaama Press reported.

At least four militants were injured.

Also Tuesday, a security official blamed Taliban militants for the death of the commander of the Afghan local police forces in Jowzjan province. The spokesman said the commander was going home when he was shot and killed by gunmen.

An explosion Wednesday in Kabul injured at least two people, including a foreign national, police said.

A police officer said the blast occurred when a bomb planted beneath a vehicle was detonated near a security checkpoint.

The foreign national reportedly was an adviser for a private security company, Khaama Press said.

British defense officials said a British soldier died of injuries he received Monday when a suspected suicide car bomber attacked a patrol base in Helmand province. A local security official said at least one Afghan national army soldier and five insurgents were killed in the attack.
