TEL AVIV, Israel, March 25 (UPI) -- Israelis who plan to visit the Golan Heights will be safe despite recent attacks there, the head of the Israeli military said Monday.

Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz even recommended people visit the area during Passover vacation, Haaretz reported.

"It's quiet, safe and beautiful, and no less important, we must not disrupt the routine of our lives because of one incident or another," he said during an Army Radio interview.

Israeli forces on the Golan Heights came under fire Sunday from Syrian forces near the border. A military jeep received light damage from Syrian bullets Saturday night.

In response to the Sunday attack, Israeli troops fired a guided surface-to-surface missile at a Syrian army post.

Gantz acknowledged the Golan Heights was more sensitive than other areas.

"I don't expect an escalation now, certainly not an impending one, but in the distant future, who can tell what will happen," he said.

"We'll continue to operate on the Golan Heights to ensure quiet, in an intelligent and determined manner, " he added. "Wherever action is required, it will occur."
