Travel agency offers trips to space

OTTAWA, March 23 (UPI) -- A Canadian travel agency is offering trips to outer space for $100,000, officials said.

Adventure Travel Co., which has offices across Canada, announced its new space package a few weeks ago for customers who have done everything else, CBC News reported.

"For a lot of our clients ... they've been to Antarctica, they've done Peru, they've trekked Mount Everest. Now this is sort of the next thing to do. It's the sort of ultimate adventure," said general manager Kristina Boyce.

The $100,000, 3-day package includes training and a one-hour flight into low-Earth orbit 64 miles above the surface at 2174 miles per hour. Blast-off points include California's Mojave Desert and Curacao in the Caribbean.

Once in space, participants will experience weightlessness for four to six minutes, said Reinhard Spronk, chief commercial officer for Space Expedition Corporation, the Dutch company the travel agency books trips for.

"The spacecraft will turn upside down and you will see the beauty of Earth," he said.

"You'd be part of such an exclusive group," Boyce said. "You'd be one of 500 people, men and women, who have seen the Earth's curvature, which has got to be such a profound experience."
