Two tourists kidnapped in Sinai

March 22, 2013 at 3:33 PM

DAHAB, Egypt, March 22 (UPI) -- Two tourists -- an Israeli man and a Norwegian woman -- were kidnapped Friday by armed tribesmen in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, security officials said.

The unidentified tourists were taken as they traveled by car on the Taba-Dahab highway in the southern part of the peninsula, the BBC reported, noting security in the area has deteriorated since the overthrow of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak two years ago.

"Security authorities are currently making contacts with tribal elders to reach the abductees," the Chinese Xinhua news agency reported Friday, adding their driver was released, unharmed.
