March 22, 2013 at 3:38 PM

MOSCOW, March 22 (UPI) -- Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, speaking at an international trade meeting Friday, called for abolition of visas between Russia and EU countries.

Speaking in Moscow at a news conference after a Russia-European Union plenary session, Medvedev called visa formalities "a rather difficult barrier between people."

Russian and the European Union have had a dialogue on visa relations since 2007 and are attempting to accelerate the process of abolishing visa restrictions, the Russian ITAR-Tass news agency said Friday.
