Man charged with killing father, uncle

MELBOURNE, March 19 (UPI) -- An Australian man was formally charged Tuesday with killing his father and uncle, who were gunned down on their remote farm in Victoria.

Ross Streeter, 30, appeared before a magistrate in Melbourne and was charged with two counts of murder, The Age reported. One of Streeter's arms was in a sling, and he seemed confused, the newspaper said.

Streeter was held pending a bail hearing. He was hospitalized after his arrest, police said.

The bodies of John and Doug Streeter were discovered Thursday at their farm in Natte Yallock, a hamlet near Maryborough. Detective Senior Constable Glenn Boxhill said investigators believe Streeter shot his uncle, left the farm for a while and then returned to kill his father.

Streeter was arrested later that day in the Bendigo area.

The brothers, described as being in their 60s, farmed a property of more than 7,000 acres. The double homicide shocked the small community where the family had lived for three generations, the newspaper said.
