GRAN CANARIA, Spain, March 17 (UPI) -- Spanish prosecutors said a karate instructor sexually abused up to 50 children -- 29 of them continually -- over the course of years in the 1990s.
Several of the alleged victims -- now in their 20s and 30s -- testified in court against Fernando Torres Baena, who they said persuaded them to participate in orgies at his karate center in Gran Canaria, ThinkSpain reported Saturday.
Baena's ex-wife, Maria Jose Gonzalez Pena, and karate instructor Ivonne Gonzalez Herrara, have already been found guilty for their involvement in the abuse and were sentenced to 148 and 126 years in jail respectively.
Pena said Baena had "great seductive power," which he used to convince his students that without sex, they would not learn karate and without karate they would have no success and go nowhere in life.
One woman testified Baena raped her when she was 9 years old while her mother was dying of a terminal illness. She said he convinced her to hate her mother for being selfish and choosing to die and leave her.
The woman, whose name was not reported, said Baena even used his own daughter -- who was 13 or 14 years old at the time -- to teach her how to perform oral sex on her male cousin.
A fourth suspect -- Juan Luis Benitez -- was acquitted in the case, ThinkSpain reported.
