Crash kills at least 24 Pakistani soldiers

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, March 16 (UPI) -- At least 24 members of the Pakistan army were killed Saturday when a bus in which they were riding plunged into the Indus River, officials said.

The bus fell into a ravine after the driver lost control of the vehicle while speeding on a sharp turn in Kohistan, Dawn News reported.

Five other people were injured.

The army was airlifting the dead and injured to Rawalpindi, said Aqal Badshah, the district coordination officer.

All of the soldiers were members of the Northern Light Infantry Battalion.
