BEIJING, March 16 (UPI) -- A changing of the guard in Beijing proceeded Saturday as lawmakers confirmed cabinet members serving in new Chinese President Xi Jinping's government.

Nine of the cabinet members are new to their posts, including the nation's top diplomat, defense minister and finance minister.

China's official Xinhua News Agency said former Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Wang Yi, was appointed foreign minister, replacing Yang Jiechi.

Lou Jiwei, chairman of China Investment Corp., the country's sovereign wealth fund, was appointed finance minister, replacing Xie Xuren.
