MANCHESTER, England, March 16 (UPI) -- Police searched Friday for the mother of a newborn baby found dead in the Manchester area in England with a note asking for a Muslim burial.
The body was discovered just before 5 p.m. Thursday in underbrush near the Bolton Wanderers' soccer stadium, The Sun reported. Police said the newborn was wrapped in plastic bags.
"While we cannot speculate on the ethnicity of either parent, there was a note requesting an Islamic burial," Chief Inspector Carol Martin said.
Martin said the mother would probably need medical care. Police reached out to Muslim leaders during Friday prayers.
Investigators were unsure how long the body had been lying under bushes before it was found.
An autopsy was scheduled for Monday. Police did not release the gender of the baby and said the cause of death was unknown.
