Police restrict access to Temple Mount

JERUSALEM, March 15 (UPI) -- Police restricted Muslims' access to Jerusalem's Temple Mount Friday after receiving reports of planned disruptions, officials said.

Women were allowed enter, but men had to be over the age of 50 and have Israeli identification cards, Ynetnews reported.

Temple Mount is in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Police officers and border guards were deployed to the Old City and East Jerusalem to maintain order, officials said.

"Police will take a firm hand against any attempt to disrupt the order," a statement said.

A week ago, police officers clashed with worshipers at the Temple Mount after some Arabs threw stones, officials said. Nine officers and several demonstrators were injured and police arrested four people.
