Man confined wife to home for two years

SA POBLA, Spain, March 15 (UPI) -- A man in Sa Pobla, Spain, who allegedly forbade his wife to leave their home for two years, has been charged with false imprisonment, police said.

The 27-year-old man, a Moroccan national and a Muslim, would not allow his wife, also Moroccan, to visit a doctor when she was ill, the website ThinkSpain reported Friday.

Police said the woman had not left her home, for even a moment, in two years, and was threatened and insulted if she tried. Investigators said the couple had been living in squalid conditions.

The man, whose name was not reported, was charged with false imprisonment and domestic abuse.
