VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 14 (UPI) -- Authorities in Canada charged 11 people with breaching court-imposed conditions for their participation in hockey riots that shook Vancouver in 2011.
Police said the 11 people have broken curfews and house arrest, and have entered Vancouver's downtown or consumed alcohol, all violations of their probation.
"We've not made these extraordinary efforts just to see some rioters flout the law another time with their disrespect to the courts," Superintendent Dean Robinson said Wednesday.
The Integrated Riot Investigation Team began monitoring 42 people who have either been convicted or face charges for participating in the riot, Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Wednesday. The officers have dropped in on individuals in their homes to make sure they're following the conditions.
"We had another individual who we attended their residence and they were not home, upon phoning them they told us that their bus had taken the wrong turn that they're on their way home," Constable Raj Mander said.
Those charged with breaching the court-imposed conditions are Camille Cacnio, Armando Garcia, Spenser Kirkwood, Dustin Wade Anderson, Atabak Nosrat, Timothy Lau and Derek King. Four others were juveniles at the time of the riots and their names have not been reported.
Police said more than 1,000 charges have been filed against 315 people allegedly involved in the June 15, 2011, riot that caused $3.7 million in damage when the Vancouver Canucks lost the Stanley Cup final to the Boston Bruins, CTV News said.
