Longtime British DJ arrested again

LONDON, March 13 (UPI) -- A veteran British disc jockey has been brought in for a second round of police questioning about alleged sexual offenses, police said.

Dave Lee Travis of Mentmore in Buckinghamshire, a longtime DJ on Radio 1 who also served as a presenter on Top of the Pops, was arrested Monday night, the BBC reported. He was released on bail after questioning.

Travis had been arrested in November as well.

Travis, nicknamed "Hairy Cornflake," is one of many celebrities caught up in the investigation that began after the death of Jimmy Savile in 2011. Savile, much admired during his lifetime and honored with a knighthood, is now alleged to have been a serial pedophile with more than 400 men and women coming forward to say he molested them as children.

Police released little information about Travis's second arrest. The investigation is called Operation Yewtree, and the announcement suggested he is a target in a section of the investigation that involves sexual crimes not connected to Savile.

Earlier this week, a police report said the first allegation about Savile's pedophilia dated back to 1963. Seven tips and complaints were made during his lifetime and none were pursued.

Travis left the BBC's Radio 1 service in 1993 after 25 years. He was a presenter for Top of the Pops in the 1970s and 1980s.
