YANGON, Myanmar, March 10 (UPI) -- Pro-democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi Sunday was re-elected as head of Myanmar's opposition, officials said.

During a closed session of a summit in Yangon, 125 members of the National League for Democracy voted to choose their next leader, CNN reported.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Suu Kyi was re-elected, CNN said, but the exact vote was not immediately released..

The vote was part of the first conference of opposition members in 25 years -- decades of authoritarian military rule previously would not allow such meetings.

A number of members of the National League for Democracy were imprisoned under the military junta and Suu Kyi was under house arrest for years before authorities released her in 2011.
